Father and son top Spring league

The Porters Wood Golf course Spring league concluded yesterday, Sunday 10th June with Roger Eden claiming top spot, narrowly edgeing out his son Nick Eden on the very last hole! It was a superb effort from Roger, as he was way back in 7th place only a few weeks previously. His winning total for his best 7 rounds was 132 points, beating Nick who finished on 131. A triple bogey 7 on the last hole unfortunately scuppered Nick’s hopes.

Beaten into tied third place was long time league leader Bob Overton, who unluckily was unable to attend the last week’s play, and Harold Davenport, who both finished on 130 points. Nick Thoday finished 5th on 125 points and Graham Ball finished 6th on 121 points, with a further 3 players tied for 7th on 120 points.

The weekly winners for the second half of the league were Harold Davenport who won both weeks 6 and 7 with 21 and 22 points, Bill Wainwright (18 p), Sydney Lord (21 p) and Roger Eden (20 p).

This was one of the closest finishes we have had with just 3 points seperating the top 4 places. The Summer league starts today, Monday 11th June and will run for 10 weeks. It will be a strokeplay format and hopefully we will see another thrilling finish!

There will be a 18 hole singles matchplay and a 9 hole fourball matchplay competition running alongside the Summer league which will start on the 1st July. Good luck!
