Autumn update

After a decent September we have endured some torrential rain at the beginning of October which has kept the course closed. Things have dried up and we are currently open. Looking at the forecast more heavy rainfall is expected from next week (19th October). If the course is too wet for play we will be closed so please make sure you ring us to check we are open on 01942 214777.

Course update

The course is looking and playing fantastic at the moment. Not been easy greenkeeping as we have had a very wet summer to date, but hopefully we will get some better weather this month. Please help us by replacing divots at all times and please put your litter in the bins provided.

We are not operating a booking system, it is still pay and play cash only. With the rules regarding coronavirus changing regularly we will be keeping the clubhouse closed for now, and all other restrictions are still in place. Please see the coronavirus measures page on the website. Opening hours will remain the same for now also.

As we head deeper into August please beware that the last tee off time will be brought back in as the nights draw in. I will update the website and the Facebook page once this begins to happen.

Spring update

Saturday 7th March 2020

The course is back open today!! However please beware that we will still be closed during or after heavy periods of rain so please ring the clubhouse on 01942 214777 to check we are open. We won’t be updating the website on a daily basis regarding course closures, and the forecast is for more rain from tonight onwards so please give us a call.

After what was probably the wettest Autumn I can remember we have ended the Winter with the wettest February since records began. This has obviously prevented us from opening as soon as we would have liked this year, and getting the fairways and roughs mowed down to Summer heights may take a while. However, the greens have been mowed and are looking and playing great considering the weather. It is winter mats to tee off on the par 3s and it is preferred lies everywhere.

The 9 hole price for a senior mid-week is now £7 but all other prices remain the same. Cash only for green fees.

Email problems

It has just come to light that there has been a problem with us receiving emails. Unfortunately we have not received emails sent to the previous email address on the Contact Us page. I have now updated this with the following address; porterswood[at]googlemail.com

This will hopefully eliminate the problem. In the meantime I would like to apologise to anybody that has sent us email and obviously not received a reply!

Porters Wood Golf Course

Situated on the outskirts of Wigan, Lancashire, Porters Wood 9-hole golf course is set in natural, undulating parkland between the villages of Shevington and Orrell. The course operates on a ‘pay and play’ basis.
